Fasten your seatbelts!
The 1st annual West Asheville Derby is coming to a hill near you!

Join us Saturday September 29th from 12-5pm.
Enjoy free admission to watch the creative talents of your friends and neighbors roll down a hill... and yes, with a medic on stand-by. Better yet, build a car, race it and win prizes! Prizes given for both speed and design including a crowd favorite. The food and beer will be local and delicious. Your children will love making their own pine car and racing them down a track in the Kids Area.

Soap box car racing goes way back but this isn't your grandaddy's box car event.

Individuals and/or teams can enter the race. Represent yourself, neighborhood or local business in what is bound to be the most fun you've ever had rolling down a West Asheville street! Racing in the West Asheville Derby is open to adults only. Pine car racing will be available for children in the Kids area.

There are only a few requirements your car must meet to be road worthy.See our Racer Info page which tells you everything you need to
know and has a downloadable application for racing in the West Asheville Derby.

We will host several soapbox car making workshops in the coming months for those needing a little inspiration or a little help with the mechanical side of things. You're not just building something mechanical, you're building art!
We encourage you to make your soapbox car out of second hand,
recycled and reused materials. Trash Inc, The Recyclery, Biltmore Iron and Metal
and Habitat for Humanity resale shops are great resources for parts you
need.
